The Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc. (POCS) works to prevent damage to underground utilities by providing an effective communication tool for use by project owners, designers, excavators, and facility owners. To accomplish this goal, POCS identified the need for a GIS-based software application to facilitate coordination and information sharing. Coordinate PA is a web service application developed to support public work and utility project planning and coordination within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The GIS-based application enables project owners to coordinate their projects with other project owners, designers, excavators, and facility owners with the goal of maximizing the benefits of shared costs through ongoing efforts to prevent damage to underground facilities in support of the Pennsylvania811 program.
The Coordinate PA application provides the ability to identify overlapping geographic areas that can be queried within specified timeframes thereby identifying collaboration opportunities. Coordinate PA enables users to add and/or import existing projects, coordinate opportunities with others who want to collaborate, share project communications with designated contacts, and notify facility owners at any stage of a project.
