We’re Attending 2025 NCGIS
Join our team as we attend the 2025 NCGIS Conference in Winston-Salem, NC, from March 19-20, 2025!
According to the NCGIS website, the NC GIS Conference has been meeting since 1987 and has, throughout that time, brought together professionals and students from across the state to share their experiences and learn about current trends and technologies affecting the GIS community. The goal of the NCGIS conference is to bring the GIS community together and capitalize on the growth of technology in North Carolina by delivering a comprehensive and relevant conference program.
Check out our presentation schedule below:
- Addressing Organizational Challenges through Strategic Planning
Presented by Niki Miller, PMP, GISP, JMT Technology Group
Thursday, March 20, 10:00 AM | Salem 1C
While it can be difficult to find time to develop a strategic plan, it provides organizations with the tools to be successful in the long-term. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the benefits and challenges that can be overcome by developing a GIS strategic plan and using your plan to measure success. Elements of a successful plan will be discussed, including clearly defined goals and objectives, prioritizing activities for staff, engaging stakeholders, and more. This presentation will be told through the lens of GIS strategic plans developed for a mature GIS program and for an organization that is just beginning to implement GIS.
- Data Analytics Has Spatial Powers
Presented by Nate Reck, JMT Technology Group
Thursday, March 20, 10:30 AM | Salem 1C
Data Analytics is part of everyday life. At your desk, in your pocket, over your eyes. It is everywhere. GIS is the Science of Everything and Everywhere and is a perfect match with data analytics and visualization. Spatial analytics is the process of analyzing data that has a geographic component and helps identify patterns, trends, and relationships through GIS. This presentation will discuss the benefits of spatial analytics and will walk through some real-world examples where organizations have made it part of their daily decision-making.
- Building a Dream Team with Virtual and Augmented Reality Tools
Presented by Niki Miller, PMP, GISP and Nate Reck, JMT Technology Group
Thursday, March 20, 11:00 AM | Salem 1C
evolving, and they are becoming integrated into Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) workflows. Engineering designs, as-builts, and building information models can be visualized at a project site at a 1:1 scale, putting new and exciting visualization and analysis capabilities into the hands of end users.
JMT has explored the use of VR and AR tools, including iTwins.js, vGIS, and SiteLink, and identified how they can add value to AEC projects. These tools aggregate and transform spatial data (BIM, GIS, and Lidar) onto a view frame on your mobile device. Through integration with high-resolution GPS, this data can be accurately juxtaposed onto your screen simply by pointing your device at the project area.
In this presentation, we will discuss the benefits of these tools and various use cases, including utility conflict detection, digital as-built development/confirmation, clash detection, and project field documentation, with key learnings from our experiences. Attendees will walk away with ideas for leveraging AR and VR tools and best practices to follow.
