PennDOT’s Latest Public Meeting Launched on JMT's VirtualSpaces
Downingtown Station, located along the Keystone Corridor in Downingtown, PA, is one of many projects that PennDOT is working on with Amtrak to provide ADA-compliant rail stations between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. To provide the public an opportunity to review the updated plans and provide input on potential aesthetic measures to be incorporated into the project, PennDOT and FTA conducted a public meeting.
Using JMT's VirtualSpaces™ platform, we created an interactive virtual meeting space as a follow-up to the well-attended in-person meeting, extending the reach of stakeholder engagement to a larger audience. The virtual meeting featured project plans, information on the project timeline and impacts, and 3D renderings of the proposed Amtrak station rebuild, showing several aesthetic options for the buildings and landscaping. The virtual meeting collected visitor contact information and gave the opportunity to leave comments on the project and their preferred aesthetic treatments.
Each virtual station contains boards that can be viewed or downloaded, along with an audio narrative for the station. In the center of the virtual space, a 3D model imported from AutoDesk Revit data is displayed, giving users a larger contextual view of how the proposed Amtrak station buildings and site will fit within the surrounding community. The virtual meeting was viewed by more than 4,000 users, and comments indicated that visitors were drawn to the 3D model view.
VirtualSpaces meeting rooms can be configured to replicate a traditional meeting room in a 3D space where attendees can virtually walk between various stations. The virtual meeting space is available 24/7, enabling community members to learn about the Downingtown Station project in their own time and at their own pace via their computer or mobile device.
