- What do you do at JMT?
I work with an incredible team in the Technology Group and serve as Senior Director of Client Engagement. In this role, I work with several others to cultivate professional and trusted relationships with new and existing clients, where we can help solve their problems with technical innovations, geospatial wizardry, strategic consultancy, and a bit of old-fashioned work.
- What brought you to JMT?
I have known the well-respected JMT name for many years and live just a handful of minutes away from the Richmond office. I also had the benefit of getting to know some great people working in different office locations. I came on board in January 2025 for an opportunity to leverage my industry experience with a knowledgeable team that is client-focused and fosters a spirit of successful growth.
- What do you like most about JMT?
I was immediately welcomed and have been thoroughly impressed with the collaborative approach and willingness of the team to help one another. The positive, constructive, and fun approach that the team takes to tackle challenges and solve problems speaks to the company's culture. In addition, I am truly impressed with the beneficial impact that JMT team members provide to local communities by providing their service to others.
- What type of projects do you like to work on most?
Every project is like a puzzle. Working with clients and team members to identify the puzzle pieces and place them together meaningfully to overcome a challenge is a ton of fun. The spatial way of thinking provides a unique perspective when determining how to solve the puzzle with technical and non-technical pieces.
- What advice do you have for someone wanting to enter this industry/career?
Learn versatile technical skills - The ability to utilize learned technical skills to tackle an array of problem types across subject areas is enormously useful. Embrace data literacy - The capability to standardize, filter, analyze, and visualize vast amounts of data will be a need on almost any type of project. Discover your communication superpower - all of us have the ability to communicate effectively, and what that looks like will vary from person to person, and yours is needed! And finally, read a lot. There is an ever-increasing trove of knowledge available, and reading is the best way to consume that information. The book is nearly always better than the movie!
- What is something new and exciting that you're working on?
The frequency and amplitude of available technological innovations that can correspond to impactful business changes is ever-increasing. The mix of generative AI, location intelligence, 3D model visualizations, digital twins, and geospatial data analytics can be dizzying. Distilling out beneficial advancements that are grounded in meaningful improvements is a significant task - and one where the services that we provide to our clients are needed. Challenge accepted!
