January 23, 2017 (Hunt Valley, MD): JMT Technology Group was awarded a contract from the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) for the Ladders of Opportunity, Regional Assessment & Tool Development!
JMT will perform spatial analysis and develop web-based interactive maps designed to identify and assess the regional population’s access to essential destinations (employment, healthcare, education, public services, healthy food options, etc.) and the current transportation network’s ability to meet population needs. These maps will be utilized by SJTPO to provide a thorough assessment of the relationship between the region’s population and the transportation network. Special emphasis will be placed on the disadvantaged populations; however, all network users will be included in the assessments and recommendations.
Disadvantaged populations are an emphasis area of the “Ladders of Opportunity” initiative within the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST) Act. Ladders of Opportunity seeks to “build a stronger and more connected nation, a healthier economy, and more vibrant communities”. To achieve this end, a concerted effort is being made by the U.S. Department of Transportation to simultaneously repair and replace the country’s infrastructure in a way that will expand economic opportunity and socioeconomic mobility throughout America.
